APPRAISAL LICENSING

REAL ESTATE APPRAISAL LICENSING

The State of Colorado issues appraisal licenses at four distinct levels;

(1) Registered Appraiser
(2) Licensed Appraiser
(3) Certified Residential Appraiser
(4) Certified General Appraiser

As each license level is attained, cumulative educational and experience hours will be accumulated. AREI encourages all students to confirm course compliance with the 2008 criteria. Licensing requirements for each level are as follows:

REGISTERED APPRAISER:

75 hours of "Qualifying" education including 60 hours of Appraisal Principles and Appraisal Procedures, 15 hours of Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice, and pass the state Level A licensing examination.

LICENSED APPRAISER:

150 cumulative hours of "Qualifying" education, 2000 hours of appraisal experience over no LESS than a 12 month period (please see www.dora.state.co.us/real-estate/appraisr/license/experience.htm for a complete definition of "Appraisal Experience"), and pass the Level A state licensing examination.

CERTIFIED RESIDENTIAL APPRAISER:

200 cumulative hours of "Qualifying education, 2500 hours of appraisal experience over no LESS than a 24 month period, an associates degree or equivalent, and pass the Level B state licensing examination.

CERTIFIED GENERAL APPRAISER:

300 cumulative hours of "Qualifying" education, 3000 hours of appraisal experience (1500 of those hours must be in the valuation of non-residential property) over no less than a 30 month period, a bachelors degree or equivalent, and pass the Level C state licensing examination.
